Michael Armstrong is a PhD candidate in clinical psychology. He provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment for children and adolescents, as well as therapy for children, adolescents and families under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. He aims to help people find practical and meaningful ways to live healthier, happier lives.

Clinical Expertise

Michael’s areas of expertise include coping with anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD, and adolescent concerns such as helping teens develop healthy autonomy and independence. Michael also provides parent support to help parents understand and manage challenging behaviours in their children.

Treatment Philosophy

Michael’s approach to assessment and treatment is collaborative and client-centred. He meets the unique and dynamic needs of his clients, establishing mutually agreed upon therapeutic goals and building open and trusting therapeutic relationships.

When conducting assessments, Michael strives to provide families with a thorough and comprehensive picture of their child’s current functioning to better understand and support the individual’s strengths and areas of challenge.

Treatment Interventions/Approaches

Michael draws from evidence-based therapeutic modalities in his work. He primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and incorporates elements of motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and other modalities as determined by individual client needs.

Carleton University

Michael completed his MA in Psychology at Carleton University and has worked in various research and practice settings with diverse clinical populations, including The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, the Youth Research Unit at the Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research, CHEO’s Eating Disorder Program, and CHEO’s Behavioural Neuroscience Consultation and Liaison team.

Michael completed his clinical training at the University of Ottawa, and completed his residency in clinical psychology at SickKids Hospital in 2022.
