What is an intake session?
We know how hard it can be to navigate services and figure out what kind of support your child needs, especially if you’re early in the process or your child has a more complex profile. You might be feeling uncertain about where to begin, what type of support would be the best fit, how to build a team that works together toward your goals, or how to make sense of your child’s needs.
An intake session is a chance to discuss your concerns and treatment goals and receive thoughtful, expert guidance. We’ll work alongside you to gather a clear picture of your child’s history, strengths, and current challenges, answer your questions, and develop a tailored plan that meets your child and family right where you are.
When is an intake session helpful?
Intake sessions are helpful if:
- Your child or teen has complex needs or multiple diagnoses
- You’re unsure how to navigate or triage support options
- You aren’t sure what support or practitioner is the best fit for your child’s needs
“It’s hard to tell if my child’s challenges are developmental, sensory, behavioural—or a mix of everything. I just want to know where to turn for the right support.”
Book a comprehensive intake sessionIntake sessions at Red Oak
At Red Oak, intake sessions offer a soft landing with a knowledgeable, compassionate practitioner who will help you clarify your child’s needs and map out the best next steps.
These parent-only sessions are typically one hour in length and can take place in person or online. During the session, we’ll review your concerns, discuss support options, share relevant resources, and develop a treatment plan based on your child’s needs, your family’s priorities, and goodness of fit with our team.
You’ll receive a follow-up email summarizing our recommendations, any additional resources, and next steps. We’ll connect you directly with the right practitioners or waitlists as needed. When needed, we will also help build a comprehensive care team that can work collaboratively toward your treatment goals.
