Ian Roth has been working as a speech-language pathologist since 2000. He has spent much of his career supporting children with Autism and social communication challenges. Ian works closely with his clients’ caregivers, educators and other supporting clinicians with the goal of helping children to use their skills flexibly with various people across different environments.
Starting in September 2025, Ian will assume a one-year academic position with the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto, where he will provide clinical training support for SLP students. This opportunity strengthens Red Oak’s connection with the next generation of SLPs and reflects our ongoing collaboration with the University of Toronto’s Speech-Language Pathology program. During this time, Ian will continue to see clients at Red Oak on a reduced schedule.
In addition to his clinical work, Ian has provided professional education and training (e.g., ECHO Autism, More Than Words®, and Social ABCs™) to clinicians internationally and to students (University of Toronto, McMaster University, Georgian College). Ian is the co-developer of ASD PlayDate, an app that helps families of Autistic children arrange and carry out successful play dates.
Ian reserves a number of spaces on his caseload for families who have received Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funding.
Ian was the 2022 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at University of Toronto. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in that department.
