Emma Cohen

Emma Cohen is a psychotherapist registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Emma provides psychotherapy to children and adolescents struggling with social and emotional challenges related to school, identity, family and friends. Emma also offers parent support to help caregivers understand, navigate and support their child’s emotional needs.

Emma meets each client where they are at. With warmth and compassion, Emma helps her clients to feel safe and secure, and to be their authentic selves. Her therapeutic practice is grounded in evidence-based treatment approaches. As appropriate, Emma utilizes and integrates Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused Therapy (SFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into her treatment.

Emma completed her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto. She has trained in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and its related approaches ie., Emotion Focused Therapy for Youth and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Before working at The Red Oak Centre, Emma worked at the Child Development Institute’s (CDI) Learning Disability and Mental Health (LDMH) program as a child and family therapist. At CDI, Emma provided individual child and youth therapy, parent therapy, social skills groups, and community psychoeducation workshops to parents of children with Learning Disabilities and ADHD struggling with mental health challenges. In addition to her time at CDI, Emma worked at Rainbow Brain, a mental health practice dedicated to helping queer, trans, and neurodivergent people.
