S.O.A.R Series (Express): Mid Day Meditation

A brief discussion & mindfulness practice for teens, ages 13-18

Teens pop into the centre for a mini, mid-day mindfulness practice to refresh, relax and reboot.

The series focuses on: Stress reduction, Optimizing well-being, training Attention, building Resilience. Sessions open with a brief discussion on related topics and moves into a short, but powerful, mindfulness meditation practice. The tools experienced in this series can easily be incorporated into daily life.

Adore your Core

A LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR TEENAGED GIRLS

A well-being program designed specifically for adolescent and teen girls. Each session involves: mindfulness practice, movement, topic discussion, coaching conversations/peer to peer, and a creative exercise. Adore Your Core fosters self awareness, self worth, empathy & compassion, authentic leadership and resilience. This program includes:

  • 1 parent workshop: To provide parents with tools to support their girls throughout the program
  • 7 teen sessions over four months

Foundations in Mindfulness

A WELL-BEING WORKSHOP SERIES FOR PARENTS

This four-week mindfulness course combines experiential mindfulness practices with the latest tools and techniques of neuroscience, psychology and the study of well-being.

There is an ever-growing body of empirical evidence showing that mindfulness can help us self-regulate, increase resilience, better manage stress, increase compassion, improve productivity and restore calm and balance.  

You will leave with:

  • A better understanding of what mindfulness is and how it can be trained
  • Insight into the science of how mindfulness changes our brains
  • An understanding of how we can break the stress-reaction cycle that keeps us locked in old habits and unsustainable states
  • Practical tools to incorporate mindfulness into your everyday life

Nourish

A SELF-CARE SERIES FOR MOMS

We were not meant to go through this motherhood journey alone. This program provides an opportunity to connect to a compassionate community of women. Join us for this transformative six-week series designed for mothers to nurture their ‘selfhood’ and develop healthy habits for balanced well-being. Each session will include: restorative/relaxation practices, guided discussion and reflection. The discussions will centre around relevant topics such as: stress & energy management, reducing guilt, rethinking balance and sleep habits.

Rise & Shine

Mindfulness Meditation Series 

Start your week off with intention in our morning mindfulness meditation series.

The benefits of meditation are well documented: stress reduction, enhanced brain function, greater focus, better sleep, improved immune health, increased happiness. This series is an opportunity for you to create the space to breathe. It will provide you with the inspiration, the community and the tools to develop a practice that you can take with you into everyday life. Beginners welcome. No prior meditation experience required.

Pre-Printing Group

An occupational therapy group for pre-schools, AGES 4-5

Children in our Pre-printing Group learn essential printing skills while engaging in enjoyable multi-sensory activities. Children develop foundational skills for printing—including fine motor dexterity, visual motor skills and letter recognition—by forming letters in sand, covering walls with shaving cream, singing songs and playing games.

Our occupational therapists develop pre-schoolers’ printing skills before they even pick up a pencil!

Dates: Wednesdays, February 15, 22, March 1, 8, 29, April 5, 7 and 19

Printing Groups

An occupational therapy group, AGES 6-8

The Red Oak Printing Group helps children improve printing skills including letter formation, size, alignment, and spacing.  

Does your child have:

  • Messy printing?
  • Poor organization of written work on the page?
  • Difficulty with pencil group?
  • Hand fatigue or pain with printing?
  • Trouble completing written tasks?
  • Frustration or avoidance of written tasks?

Children will gain improved postural control, fine motor dexterity and strength, visual motor skills and pencil grasp.

Self-Regulation Groups

Occupational therapy groups for school aged children, groups are divided into: AGES 6-8 and AGES 9-11

Does your child have difficulty controlling their emotions and impulses?

Does your child experience frequent:

  • Anxiety?
  • Anger?
  • Frustration?
  • Explosive behaviour?
  • Stress?
  • Wiggles and silliness?

Help your child achieve and maintain a calm alert state. This program will help your child to recognize their different emotional states. Participants explore cognitive and sensory strategies and develop their own tools to manage their self-regulation.

The Red Oak Self-Regulation Groups are led by Occupational Therapists (OTs) and are based on Zones of Regulation Curriculum along with Sensory Integration Theory, Social Thinking and the Alert Program.

Acorns

An Interactive and Immersive Early Literacy Class for Pre-schoolers and their caregivers

Acorns is a fun, engaging and interactive literacy class for pre-schoolers and their caregivers.

Through song, finger play, puppets, sensory activities, arts and craft, storytime and more, we create a rich and stimulating environment to celebrate literacy. Children will develop a love of reading and strengthen their emerging literacy skills.

Ready to Read

A Fun and Engaging Literacy Group for Kindergarteners, AGES 4-5 

Our Ready to Read group promotes the development of essential early literacy skills.  

Participants develop skills and tools to grow into confident readers. We use creative songs and chants, multi-sensory activities and games to strengthen phonological awareness, letter recognition and sound-letter correspondence. Sight words will be introduced and reinforced using engaging books, creative writing, art and games.
