The Red Oak offers services to teenagers struggling with important milestones of adolescence, including gaining independence from parents, identity formation, developing and maintaining mature relationships, mastering higher level learning challenges and preparing for adulthood.

SERVICES AVAILABLE TO ADOLESCENTS AT THE RED OAK INCLUDE:
Psychological and Neuro-psychological Assessments reveal learning profiles in order to determine whether a brain-based learning issue is present. Tailored recommendations are provided to enable collaboration and cooperation with schools. Attention abilities and social and emotional concerns are also assessed.
Executive Functions are essential skills necessary for effective and independent learning and for managing all facets of daily life. While many adolescents develop these skills naturally, others require explicit executive functioning instruction. Our executive functioning coaches teach adolescents the foundational skills they need to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
Psychological Treatments, drawn from research, are provided by registered psychologists to help improve mood and functioning. Expert care and attention is spent building rapport and connection and building trust since goodness of fit between the adolescent and therapist is key. Psychologists support adolescents throughout the treatment process, in collaboration with parents when appropriate.
Adolescent Coaching is available to teens preparing for university or gap years, or experiencing difficulty with transitional times. Teens also have the opportunity to join a group that meets regularly to discuss adolescent issues.
Occupational Therapy (OT) is often recommended for adolescents who have sensory sensitivity issues and require sensory integration therapy. Other OT services for adolescents include hand-writing support and self-regulation strategies.
Mindfulness Training is shown by a growing body of evidence to lead to improved health outcomes, both physical and mental. Mindfulness coaches at the Red Oak provide one-on-one and group sessions.
Educational Support is available to adolescents at the Red Oak who require help academically. Specialized teachers are trained to provide research-based strategies to boost literacy (including: reading, comprehension, and writing) and executive functioning skill development. Teachers support adolescents with or without learning disabilities (LD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Speech Language Therapy is available to adolescents who present with language difficulties. Interventions are evidence-based and engaging, and providing concrete strategies tailored to an adolescent’s needs. Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) also conduct school visits and coach parents and/or teachers when appropriate.
